Term 3 Week 6 2026 - Friday 21st, August.
What have we been up to?
What a fabulous fortnight we have had! The students all loved our excursion to Ripponlea Estate. We explored the incredible mansion and servants' quarters, where we learnt the difference between how the rich and the servants lived. We were all shocked to learn that children as young as 9 would start working as servants, sleeping on the cold kitchen floor! This definitely made us appreciate what we have today. Additionally, playing with the ‘olden days’ games and a scavenger hunt for creatures around the gardens made it a day to remember!
We can't believe that we are already halfway through the term, time must fly when we're having fun!
In Literacy, We come to the end of our unit of Poetry. Last week we focused on narrative poems where we created captivating and amazing poems about a slice of cake as we read ‘Chocolate Cake’ by Michael Rosen, a hilarious storyteller. This is the last poem to add to our poetry books. Our poetry books include Rhyming poems, Haikus, free verse poems with similes, shape poems and narrative poems. We are so excited to share these with you!
This term, we are exploring the following in phonics:

In Maths, we are starting to learn about 2D shapes. We have learnt about regular and irregular polygons. We can identify shapes with parallel lines. We have been exploring the concept of rotating shapes, as a polygon is always a polygon, no matter the direction it is facing. This allowed us to create Tangrams with shapes. The students have created incredible pictures, from houses to sports fields to bunnies, using only shapes!
In Inquiry, we are continuing to learn about the past and present in our community. We loved visiting the Ripponlea estate and learning about how life has changed dramatically in the last 200 years! We are also exploring games of the past and how children played and had fun in very different ways compared to now.
Important reminders:
- Hats are not required in term 2 or 3, but they are encouraged, as the sun is still shining! Please continue to send your child to school with a water bottle each day
- We are continuing to send take-home readers each week. Your child will not be able to take home a book without a reading satchel. If your child does not have one, please reach out to your classroom teacher. If you have any further feedback or questions regarding take-home readers, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your classroom teacher.
