Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers

Has anyone told Melbourne it’s winter? Because judging by the icy mornings and frosty fingertips, the message has well and truly arrived! Despite the chill, some of our students continue to defy logic and temperature by turning up in shorts and T-shirts, while the rest of us are layering like we’re headed to the Arctic.

Curriculum Day – Monday 21st of July

A reminder that Monday 21 July is a Curriculum Day. Students will return for Term 3 on Tuesday 22 July. This will be our final curriculum day for the year (excluding Professional Practice Days). Each teacher at EPS will have one (1) Professional Practice Day in Semester 2, scheduled on a day of their choosing. These will be communicated to you in advance.

2026 Prep Enrolments Update

We currently have 56 confirmed Prep enrolments for 2026, with a capacity for 64 students across four classes (16 students per class). Of these, 24 are out-of-zone enrolments without a sibling already attending EPS. As always, placements are managed in line with the Department of Education’s Placement Policy, which prioritises in-zone students, followed by out-of-zone siblings, then other out-of-zone applicants as space permits. You can read more about the policy here.

Key 2026 Prep enrolment dates:

  • Applications due: Friday 25 July 2025
  • Outcome notifications: Between Monday 28 July and Friday 8 August 2025

If you have a child starting school in 2026 or know someone who does, please be sure to follow these timelines and reach out if you have any questions.

As we reach the halfway point of the school year, I want to take a moment to thank our wonderful community for your continued support, partnership, and good humour (especially during drop-off in freezing conditions!). Whether it’s helping with events, showing up for your child’s learning, or simply staying connected, your contributions help make Elsternwick Primary the vibrant, caring place it is.

Have a great weekend and term break,

Michael Portaro
