Assistant Principal's report

Leanne Williams - Assistant Principal

Dear Families,

Thank you to our amazing EPS community for another term filled with positive wellbeing and strong learner engagement. I’m also grateful for the many moments throughout the term when you placed your trust in me to listen, support, and work together in the best interests of your children.

Attitudes to School Survey (AToSS)

All government schools are required to participate in the Attitudes to School Survey (AToSS), which invites students from Years 4 to 12 to share their views about their school experience. The survey provides valuable data to help the Department of Education understand student perceptions and improve the schooling experience across Victoria.

At Elsternwick Primary School, we use the AToSS data in several meaningful ways. Most notably, it serves as a key measure of progress towards our wellbeing goal in the current School Strategic Plan — a target we are proud to have achieved.

Target2021 Baseline2025 Goal2025 Result
Sense of Connectedness79%82%91%
Sense of Inclusion87%90%94%
Respect for Diversity82%85%91%
Managing Bullying81%85%90%

The insights gained from the AToSS also guide our ongoing efforts to further develop a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Term 3 Curriculum Day

Focus: Continuing to Create Calm, Consistent, and Connected Classrooms

Curriculum Days provide an excellent opportunity for us to come together as a whole staff to align our work with both Department priorities and our school’s strategic direction.

Our Term 3 Curriculum Day will continue to build on our focus of creating calm, consistent, and connected classrooms, with evidence-based strategies that support student engagement and wellbeing at the heart of our work.

Canberra Study Tour – 2026

We are pleased to confirm the dates for our 2026 Canberra Study Tour:Tuesday 17th – Friday 20th February 2026

Further information, including payment plan options, will be shared with families later in Term 3.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Update

Professional learning sessions have been scheduled for Term 3 to support a whole-school review of our Digital Literacy practices. These sessions will focus on:

  • An overview of how ICT is used across each year level, with links to the curriculum
  • Collaboratively developing a ‘Tip Sheet’ for parents/carers to support digital learning at home

A Compass communication has also been sent to Year 2 families, requesting that their child’s device be ready for use by Week 7 of Term 3. This timeline adjustment was made following valuable input from the Year 2 Team Leader, who noted that students will be swimming during the first two weeks of Term 4, significantly reducing the time available to build foundational digital skills such as logging in, using a mouse, and basic navigation.

We are continuing to explore secure storage options for student devices at school and will update families as soon as possible.

If any families have a contact at JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, or another supplier who may be able to assist with device set-up support, please feel free to get in touch.

Wishing you all a safe and restful break, and we look forward to another engaging term ahead.

Kindest,

Leanne Williams
