STEM/Science

Welcome to Science! I'm Mrs Edwards and I'm so excited to be teaching STEM/Science this year.
The STEM/ Science program encourages students from Prep to Year 6 to engage scientifically with the world around them. Students participate in 50min weekly STEM/ Science lessons.
Our program this Semester focuses on
- Earth and Space Sciences
- Physical Sciences
There is a strong focus on developing higher order thinking skills by emphasising collaboration, communication, research, problem solving, critical thinking and creativity.
Students have created the longest piece of paper from one A4 sheet, which took lots of creative thinking and problem solving! There was a class competition to see whose paper reached the longest length. Some were over 4metres long!!
Students also used one piece of paper and some tape to hold up two heavy books! They created 3D cylinders, square and triangular prisms and discussed why particular shapes could hold more weight than others.
P-2s this week have been learning about what causes day and night, focusing on observable changes in the sky. Whilst 3/6s have been identifying the planets of the solar system. Students created their own posters with mnemonics, to help students learn the names and order of the planets.
Preps have also used the Lego to creatively construct different Lego models. There were flying pianos, spacecrafts, flying cars e
