The Arts

Welcome to The Arts for 2025!
I'm very excited to be back teaching Performing and Visual Arts this year. We have many exciting things planned in Term 1, which will hopefully give the students a chance to expand their creativity and artistic flair!
Music
In Music, students across the school are exploring the differences between beat and rhythm. Prep students have explored keeping a steady beat with both body and instrument percussion. 1/2 students have been exploring how to create different types of rhythms. 3/4 students have been learning how songs are broken into smaller parts (bars) and how to recognise how many beats are in each bar. 5/6 students have been learning about styles of music from around the world, such as reggae music, and composing their own songs with reggae rhythms.
Drama
In 3/4, students have been exploring the terms 'role-play', 'improvisation' and 'mime'. They have been given oppotunities to act both improvised and rehearsed performances for the class. In 5/6, students have begun to develop ideas for this year's 5/6 production. They have auditioned for rolls in the production, and will soon begin reheasing our first scenes.
Visual Arts
In Prep, students have begun exploring colours, specifically the primary colours and how they can be mixed together to create secondary colours. In 1/2, students have begun to learn about famous artists from history, such as Vincent van Gogh, and to try an emulate their styles in their own art work.
I can't wait to see what creative endevours our students will present as the term continues!
Thank you,
Jared Smith
