Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Students and Staff

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in our recent school events and activities. The past few weeks have been filled with opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection, and it’s been wonderful to witness the engagement and enthusiasm across our community.

Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews

A special thank you to all our teachers for their hard work during the Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews held in August. These interviews are a crucial opportunity for parents, students, and teachers to come together to discuss each student's progress and learning journey. We deeply appreciate the time, effort, and thoughtful conversations that make these moments so valuable. It’s through these strong partnerships that we continue to support the success of every student.

Wear it Purple Day

On Friday 30 August, MGSC came together to celebrate Wear it Purple Day, raising awareness for inclusivity and respect for LGBTQIA+ youth. By wearing purple, we demonstrated our commitment to fostering an environment where every student feels valued and respected. This year’s theme, Your Passion, Your Pride, resonated deeply with our community, and I’m proud of the way our students and staff embraced this important cause.

Legally Blonde Production

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in our recent production of Legally Blonde! It was truly a spectacular performance, showcasing the exceptional talent and dedication of our students, both on stage and behind the scenes. Special thanks go to Jenny Connolly, Sara-Louise, Fiona, Eric, Wendy, and Sara Robertson for their leadership and support. This production was a perfect reflection of our school values—empowerment, inclusivity, creativity, and achievement—and it was a highlight for the entire school community.

Victorian Schools Music Festival

We are also thrilled to acknowledge our Year 8 and Symphonic Bands, who participated in the Victorian Schools Music Festival on the 5 and 6 September. Both performances were outstanding, with students from 8A and 8B taking the stage on Thursday, followed by our Symphonic Band (Years 9–12) on Friday. Their hard work and musical talent were on full display, and we couldn’t be prouder of their representation of MGSC.

Mentone RSL Gig

Last night our students had the chance to showcase their contemporary music talents at the annual Mentone RSL gig. Bands like Nonchalant, Sphinx, Blush, Static, Madrigal, and our Year 12 performers will take to the stage in what promises to be an evening filled with music and celebration. It’s always a fantastic opportunity to come together as a community to support our talented musicians in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.

Market Day

Unit 1-2 Business Management students held their annual Market Day, raising money for charity through student-run stalls. It was fantastic to see their creativity, business acumen, and commitment in action. Not only did the day serve as a wonderful opportunity to teach essential skills, but it also demonstrated the generosity and community spirit of our students. We’ll be sharing the fundraising results soon, and I’m confident it was a resounding success.

In closing, I want to thank all students, parents, and staff for your continued involvement and support in making these events and activities so meaningful. It’s the dedication, energy, and shared commitment of our school community that make Mentone Girls' Secondary College such a wonderful place to learn, grow, and thrive.

Warm regards
