Out and About

Theatre Studies

VCE and Year 10 Theatre Studies students attended a performance of Slap, Bang, Kiss at th Shirley Burke Theatre in Parkdale. The Melbourne Theatre Company production is part of the Theatre Studies curriculum. After the performance MGSC students were able to ask actors and the production team questions to inform their assessment tasks and better still, meet the accomplished young performers.

Chemistry

Unit 1 & 2 Chemistry students had a wonderful opportunity to attend a citizen science experience at Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC)  a specialist STEM learning facility in Strathmore. The day consisted of running experiments and improving our lab skills in aiding VSSEC to obtain more data for their research paper on space anaemia. The day started with an explanation of the two experiments and the unknown link between astronauts in space and developing anaemia. We then completed two experiments to analyse the amounts of iron present in astronaut blood serums using a UV-vis spectrometer and an ICP-MS mass spectrometer which was invented by an Australian scientist in the 1950s! Working with these laboratory instruments taught us valuable lab skills and extended our knowledge from class into a real world application.

Outdoor Education

More outdooring. 'Coz that's what they do!

In Year 10 OED are comparing the natural and artificial environments. During the term they travelled to the You Yangs and completed an outdoor experience on the rocks there, rock climbing and abseiling. Then they took it indoors and visited Bayside Rock to participate in the rock climbing and caving. Some awesome days of adventuring for our OED students.
