All Things Hub

Springvale Rise Primary School Community Hub

First Week of Hub Kicks Off

This week we kicked off our first week of Hub programs for the year, and it was so exciting to see everyone back after a long break. In English class students practised introducing themselves, talking with a friend, sharing their favourite interests and asking others what they like. When we practise introducing ourselves and talking about what we enjoy, it helps us to grow in confidence in both social situations and everyday conversations.

In playgroup the children had a wonderful time when Paul from Kelly Sports visited for some fun gross motor activities. The children practised hopping, skipping, balancing, throwing and catching. They also loved kicking the soccer ball into goals and hitting the football. When children run, jump and move side to side like weaving through cones they practise using both the left and right sides of their body together. This helps the brain and body work as a team and supports skills they need later when reading across a page and writing smoothly.

In Women’s Wellbeing group we came together to celebrate the recent Lunar New Year. We enjoyed playing bingo games and sharing laughter and conversation with each other. Everyone also wrote inspirational messages and wishes in Chinese on black and gold paper, a meaningful activity that reflects the tradition of decorating with positive words and hopes for health, happiness and good fortune in the year ahead.

Also this is a kind reminder that our Food Relief program is back. Although it is volunteer led we aim to provide weekly sessions where families can access free food staples. This year we have also been fortunate to partner with FoodFilled whose volunteers rescue surplus food and redistribute it to community groups in need. They were able to donate over ten pallets of fresh vegetables, meats, fruit and even special treats like doughnuts and cake this week. Please remember that this service is open to school families only.
