Clean Up Australia Day
The end of Term 3 has seen the changing of the executive members of the Environmental Council, with many of the existing members starting to prepare for their upcoming HSC exams.
Current members of the Environmental Council voted and it is my pleasure to announce the new members of the Environmental Council Executive.
Congratulations to:
· Madison Roe (President)
· Hallie Scott (Vice President)
· Chelsea Miller (Secretary)
· Gemma Coates (Treasurer)
· Charlette Lyon (Communications Officer)
On behalf of the Environmental Council, I would like to thank the exiting Executive for all their effort and contributions. Thanks goes to Grace Salkeld, Annie Kelly, Jack Knight and Blake Smith who will be leaving the Environmental Council. Charlette Lyon will remain as the communications officer for 2024. Under their leadership, the Environmental council oversaw the extension of the Tribe Street site of the regeneration project, further development of the bird feeders and the production of an environmental mosaic.
There are a wide range of projects currently running within the Environmental Council, such as seeding and growing native plants, feeding local native birds, creating native habitats, resource recovery for shredded paper, including old text books and other material..
The Environmental Council meets every Thursday, second break. We welcome anyone who would like to make a difference to the Environment and the School. The new leadership team has big ideas and I open the invitation to come and join them.
I look forward to seeing what changes and new projects that the new executive will bring to the Environmental Council.
Good Luck to them.
Mr Nichols

Executive Report
On the 11th of September this year, Our former 2023 President, Gace, joined by our former 2023 Secretary, Jack and presented the mural that the environmental council has been working tirelessly to complete to both the school and two new members of our executive team, Our new 2024 Vice President, Hallie, and our new 2024 Communications Liaison, Charlette. The plan for the mural is to hang it in a prominent area around the school so that we are able to promote the environmental council and the work that we are doing to try and make MacCarthy a better and more livable place.
In addition to presenting the mural to the school, the Vice President presented a special badge to one of our vital members, James Bonarius. James is a committed member to the environmental council and works often at the projects which he is most passionate about. He has led the regeneration project along Tribe St, near the Science Labs, along with the 2023 executive members, which is progressing on schedule. He has removed a large number of weeds, planted a large number of native plants and built a frog and reptile habitat, in correspondence with helping the people in younger years find what they are passionate about within the community. He has worked hard in the regeneration of the creek, placing in plants to start establishing a riparian zone.
Furthermore, there are additional members of the environmental council who are consistent and deserve to be recognised for their contributions to our school, and we will work on acknowledging those people when we can.
Until then, we welcome new members of all years to our meetings; which are held on every Thursday second break with Mr Nichols and our executive members. We can’t wait to see you all there.
Thank you.
Charlette Lyon - Communications Liaison
