Library News

Get your holiday reading now

This term we have focused on adding quality, award winning young adult reads to our collection. These books include books showcasing stunning illustrations, graphic novels, books targeted at younger readers and those aged fourteen years plus. Now is the time for borrowers to come in and find a good book.

Browse the displays and shelves.  Come in and ask the Library staff to assist with using the catalogue to find a just right read based on their preferred authors or genre. Then read a chapter to sample your book choice. We encourage everyone to come in, see what others are reading and borrow some books for the holiday period.

CBCA Book Week 2023

The theme this year for the CBCA Awards is “Read, grow, inspire”.  In the McCarthy Library we have been enjoying celebrating Book Week and encouraging students to reserve or borrow these quality books.  We have an extensive book display made up of the 2023 Shortlisted titles and displays of quality Australian literature including previous CBCA winning books around the library.   Students have enjoyed taking home clever ‘page corner’ bookmarks, designed to mark the page while protecting the book’s page.  Photo book corner bookmark

Book Hooks with CBCA titles

In our English Library Reading classes, students have been treated with book readings of our 2023 winner and honour listed books by special guest readers. Book Hooks enables students to sample a book and contemplate whether they are ‘hooked on the book,’ and whether they would like to place a reservation on the title. This activity has proven successful and very enjoyable for both our students and the guest readers.

National Science Week 2023

The school theme for National Science Week in 2023 was Innovation: Powering Future Industries. In the Library our Year 7 and 8 Science classes celebrated Science Week by joining a talk by  Kamilaroi man, acclaimed author and CEO of Deadly Science Corey Tutt, via a State Library of NSW video link. First Nations peoples have over 65,000 years of STEM knowledge. They are the first scientists, bakers, engineers, astronomers and more as Corey explained. He shared some amazing stories of Australia's first inventions and answered many student questions about his life and passion for science.
