Queensland Catholic Schools and College Music Festival
On Thursday August 17th to Sunday 20th of August, 34 students and 3 teachers traveled to Brisbane to experience and perform in the Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival. The Festival is a four day event, held at Villanova College in Brisbane, which has been going for 32 years. This year, 501 schools participated, with 14000 students performing over the four days.
After an 8 hour bus trip, we arrived at our accommodation and settled in. Our first performances were on Friday. We traveled to Villanova by bus and the Brass Ensemble and Woodwind Ensemble both performed. Each group performed 2 pieces, and each group received a Silver Award for their performance. On Friday night, we returned to Villanova where one of our rock bands performed. There were a variety of other contemporary ensembles performing in their group, however the Delusions received a Silver Award for their performance also.
On Saturday, we returned to Villanova early, where the Concert Band performed their three pieces. The concert band received a gold award for their performance. We were also able to watch a number of other performances from other schools during our time at the festival. It was really good to see the variety of ensembles, and performances. At the festival there were choirs, string ensembles, other bands, and even drumlines. All of the band members found the festival and the variety of performances very inspiring.
Congratulations to all of the students involved for their commitment, practice and participation in this event.
