Faith and Mission

Bernadette Casey - Assistant Principal: Faith and Mission

Catholic Education Week

A Jubilee Year is a significant time for the global Church. Celebrated every 25 years, it is an invitation to renew our faith, deepen our connection with Christ, and strengthen our relationships within our Catholic communities.'

Representing Marian College at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne was a powerful experience for our students. Amidst 3,000 students and staff from across the Archdiocese of Melbourne, both primary and secondary, Elly, Sianna, Marysatty, Azariah, Christy, Yvonne and our Lamp Bearers Leah and Alina joined me in participating in the vibrant celebration of the annual Mass of St Patrick on Friday 21 March. Leah and Alina carried the College banner along with 150 other students to lead Archbishop Peter Comensoli into the Cathedral to the tune of bagpipes.  Archbishop Peter’s welcoming message and homily focused on the spirit of St. Patrick, which resonated deeply, emphasising the importance of faith guided actions and words.

A highlight was our College Lamp Bearer, Leah, who was invited to the Young Speakers Colloquium. Sharing reflections from her recent overseas immersion in Rome and London, Leah delivered a profound message about living one's faith authentically. Her insights were met with enthusiastic reception from over 150 student representatives from other schools. The event was a testament to the unity of Catholic education, fostering a sense of shared faith and purpose.

Some of the student comments from the day were as followed.

"Seeing so many students together, it felt like we were part of something huge."

"Archbishop Peter's words about St. Patrick and unveiling the new painted portrait, really made me think about how I live my own faith."

"Leah and the panel’s talk was inspiring; it showed me how faith can be lived out in real life."

"The music and singing during Mass was amazing; it made the whole experience feel so powerful."

"It was cool to hear different perspectives from students from other schools."

"I felt a real sense of community and belonging."

Cultural Diversity Day

The College vibrantly celebrated Cultural Diversity and Harmony Day last Friday, a testament to our rich community. Students showcased their heritage through stunning cultural attire, painting a tapestry of global traditions. The day resonated with the spirit of Harmony Day, emphasising our school's unique strength: a multicultural, multi-faith and diverse community united in peace and harmony. Celebrations highlighted the beauty found in our differences, reinforcing the message that inclusivity and respect are cornerstones of our school's identity. The atmosphere was filled with joy, fostering a deeper appreciation for the diverse backgrounds that enrich our shared experience.

Our final fundraising event for Term 1 for Wellsprings and Caritas is the Caritas Long Walk for Water: Wed 2 April in P4. Our students and staff are taking to the streets of Sunshine to raise awareness for the daily struggles faced by communities without access to clean water. Imagine a simple task, like fetching water, becoming a dangerous journey fraught with peril. While we enjoy the luxury of readily available tap water, others navigate crocodile infested waters or endure hours long treks. Your sponsorship directly supports Caritas in building life-saving wells and water treatment systems. Join us in making a real difference. Please use the QR code on our pamphlet.
