From the Principal

Angela Romano - Principal

As we embrace hospitality as our theme for 2025—one of the core Kildare values—we are reminded of our call to welcome all with open hearts, generous spirits, and a deep respect for the dignity of every person.

The hive of activity throughout the month of March has beautifully reflected this value and the vibrant spirit of our school community. From community events and student leadership to shared celebrations and everyday interactions, there has been a tangible sense of warmth, connection, and belonging. Just as St Brigid opened her home to others, we too strive to build a culture where every person feels seen, supported, and part of something meaningful. This is the heart of Marian College—a place of strength, kindness, and true Brigidine hospitality.

Catholic Education Week

Last week we celebrated Catholic Education Week.  The theme for 2025 is: “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you” (Isaiah 60:1)

The week was a chance for all Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of Melbourne to celebrate their faith, identity, and commitment to education, while recognising their vital role in the local community and the collective strength of the Catholic education sector. Our Student Leaders attended the annual Schools Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral, joining over 2000 students and staff to celebrate the feast of St Patrick and witness the unveiling of a new icon of the saint.

NAPLAN

Over the past fortnight, our Years 7 and 9 students completed their NAPLAN assessments with focus and determination. While just one measure of progress, NAPLAN offers valuable insight into literacy and numeracy development and reminds us that learning is a journey shaped by effort, persistence, and growth.

Harmony Day

Last week, we celebrated Harmony Day, a time to recognise and honour the rich cultural diversity that shapes our Marian College community. Embedded in the values of inclusiveness, respect, and belonging, Harmony Week brings our 2025 theme of hospitality to life—welcoming all, embracing difference, and celebrating the strength found in unity. With students and staff from a wide range of backgrounds, Marian is a true reflection of Australia’s multicultural spirit and a community where everyone is encouraged to feel seen, valued, and at home.

End of Term 1

As we approach the final week of Term 1, I encourage all students to stay focused, organised, and fully engaged in their learning. This final week is an important opportunity to consolidate understanding, complete assessments with care, and finish the term strong.

It has been a busy and rewarding start to the year, and the term will conclude on Friday 4 April, marking the beginning of the term break and the Easter holiday.

Easter is a sacred and significant time for Christians—a time to reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. On Holy Thursday, we remember the Last Supper and the powerful act of Christ breaking bread and sharing a meal with his disciples, symbolising unity, service, and love.

On behalf of all staff at Marian College, I wish you and your families a safe and restful Easter break. A reminder that students return on Monday 28 April, following a three-week break. Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences will be held online on Thursday 24 April from 12.00pm to 8.00pm.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for a positive start to Term 2.
