VCE VM News

Our Year 11 and 12 VCE Vocational Major (VM) students have had a productive fortnight, engaging in practical and community-focused learning across all subjects.

In Personal Development Skills and Work Related Skills, our Year 11 students are developing a proposal to install a mini golf course at school. As part of their research, they visited the Footbridge Mini Golf to explore course design, obstacles, space and safety considerations. They are now preparing formal proposals that include design concepts, budgeting and a clear rationale outlining the benefits to our school community.

Our Year 12 students are planning fundraising initiatives to support the Country Fire Authority (CFA) in building a new fire station. They are currently deciding on their projects and look forward to contributing to an important community cause.

In Literacy, Year 11 students are strengthening their grammar and punctuation skills while exploring a range of text types. Year 12 students have completed their first assessment on different text types and are now working on a Website Design task.

In Maths, both Year 11 and 12 students are focusing on statistics and data collection, developing skills in gathering, analysing and interpreting data for real-world application.

It's fantastic to see students applying their learning in meaningful and practical ways across all subjects.

I am writing to provide an update on the Biology excursion to the GTAC program in Melbourne on Friday 20 February. We departed the school at approximately 6:45am and returned safely at around 8:00pm.

All students arrived on time and participated in a highly engaging, informative, and hands-on learning experience. The session was well organised and very interactive, allowing students to actively engage with advanced scientific concepts in a real-world laboratory environment. Students were guided through GTAC’s microscopy and imaging technologies, using state-of-the-art equipment, including fluorescence microscopes.

They also explored the determination of genetically inherited conditions, with a focus on mitochondrial proteins.
