In Our Words is a big study about LGBTIQA+ young people in Australia aged 14 to 21. They want to know about your health, wellbeing, and who you turn to for help. This is the 5th time this survey has taken place. Your answers will help make sure young LGBTIQA+ people get the support they need.

The Count Us In Survey is a survey that is directly tied to this year's census. The Australian Census for the first time ever is asking questions that include LGBTQA+ community (unfortunately there are still gaps for Intersex inclusion). The Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society are partnering with researchers at UNSW Sydney to conduct this confidential survey of how likely people are to answer the new gender and sexual orientation questions in the 2026 Australian Census.
They want to understand:
- How LGBTQ+ people, and adults who live with and care for LGBTQ+ people, are likely to answer
- Whether the Census questions reflect how people describe their gender and sexual identity
- How privacy, disclosure, or who else is in the house might affect what’s recorded on Census night
This survey is for people:
- Aged 16 years or older
- LGBTQA+, or a parent, caregiver, other adult who lives with and cares for LGBTQA+ people
- Living in Australia
