Wominjeka, a Bunurong word that Josh West, a Palawa/Bunurong man, used during his Welcome to Country at our first Whole School assembly (A big thank you to Bendigo Bank for their donation to make this possible)

Wominjeka which not only welcomes us but also means 'come with purpose'. Josh reminded us to tread softly as we walk in the footsteps of ancestors, to embrace opportunities with an open heart and mind, to be caring towards each other and the land we call our home. The year 7s we all welcomed during this assembly, have certainly started their school year with purpose. They have been engaged and inquisitive, thoughtful and caring.

Josh West also performed a Smoking ceremony, using the traditional plants of Cherry Ballart, Wattle and Gum. Our Koorie students, student and school leaders were invited to pass through the smoke, on behalf of the whole school community. The smoke offers protection, both physically and spiritually.
