From the (Acting) Principal

Welcome back for Term 3! I hope everyone's had an enjoyable holiday and that the term has started smoothly for you. As mentioned in the last newsletter, Mrs Rush is away in Canada at the moment and will be returning at the start of next week. Thanks to our whole school community who are incredibly supportive whenever I "get to be Mrs Rush" for a few weeks.

The start of term can be tricky for some families as they move from the holiday routine back into the school routine. If you're having any difficulty with the morning transition, please get in touch or have a look at the following resources:

A huge thanks to our family volunteers who have allowed us to run Brekky Club five days per week. It's been very popular, especially on those cold mornings when our kids have been able to have breakfast inside. If you'd like to add your list to the name of volunteers, please use this link: https://forms.gle/SWe7peRQjPStzQtg8

In the first week of school, we've had a lot of students needing changes of clothes due to slipping in the yard. If you think your child is prone to exploring puddles, slippery grass and muddy areas, can you please pack in a spare set of clothes for them? We are running low on spare uniforms so we can't always provide a change of clothes when needed.

We have also had some complaints from our neighbours about some students playing inappropriately near the fenceline. We have spoken with our students about this, but we would appreciate you also having a conversation around respecting people's properties and privacy by staying away from the fence, not looking over fences and not intentionally throwing things over the fence.

This week, we started our Buddies program for the term. Students in Year 1-5 work in multi-age groups on Monday afternoons to complete activities aimed to build connection, collaboration and creativity.

Our students in Year 3-6 have now started working through the Word Origins program. This program explores morphology - how words are made up of different smaller parts, or "morphemes". Over the first few weeks, we'll be exploring words made from the root words "tract", "ject", "act" and "port". Classes have already had lots of fun pulling words apart and creating their own words using different morphemes.

This week, our Preps and Year 1s will be heading off to Swim-Gym on Fridays. We wish them all the best as they spend their day swimming, jumping, rolling, and hopefully sleeping really well after a big day of activity.

As a school, we are incredibly lucky to have the support we do from the community. We have recently received a $5000 grant from Stockyard Hill Wind Farm which will go towards purchasing Lego robots for STEM and ICT lessons. Students in Years 4-6 will learn how to code these robots, and students in Year 5/6 will have the chance to compete in the Lego League competition later in the year. A huge thanks to Stockyard Hill Wind Farm for making this possible.

We have also received a grant for nearly $3000 from the Department of Transport and Planning. This grant will help the school to run the Bike Ed program in Term 4, including the Raglan Ride, Bike Ed Challenge, and Recranked Program where students learn to repair bikes.

Blender Donation Needed!

Our Hands on Learning space is preparing for an exciting new project, and we're looking for an unwanted blender to help bring it to life!

If you have an old blender at home that you no longer need it, it doesnt need to work anymore, we'd love to give it a new purpose.

If you are able to donate, please send it to the school office or contact the school.

Thank you for supporting our students and helping us create engaging hands-on learning experiences!

Thanks for a great start to the term. If you need anything during the week, please feel free to call the school, message me on Xuno, send me an email at joshua.shuttleworth@education.vic.gov.au or drop in for a chat.
