From the Year 6 Classroom

It has been a busy and exciting time for our Year 6 students, with many wonderful achievements and events to celebrate.
In English, we are continuing our novel study of The Ghost in My Suitcase. Students have been engaging in thoughtful discussions and responding to the text through written and creative activities.
In Mathematics, we have just begun a new unit exploring prime, composite and triangular numbers. Students are learning to identify number patterns and apply their understanding through problem-solving tasks.
In Religious, we recently celebrated Shrove Tuesday with pancakes and enjoyed this special tradition together. On Wednesday, we will attend Parish Mass to mark the beginning of Lent. This is an important time for reflection, prayer and preparation for Easter.
Leadership Announcements We are very proud to announce our Year 6 student leaders for 2026. Congratulations to the following students who have been nominated for these important roles:
School Captains (Semester 1): Ella Knight and Logan Sheahan
Mercy House Captains: Skye Strawhorn and Olive Cummins
Lourdes House Captains: Roley Cummins and Alex Bridgeman Aitken
Fatima House Captains: Harry Douglass and Stella Hicks
Loreto House Captains: Layla Bailey and Lewis Hargreaves
We congratulate all of these students on their leadership achievements and look forward to seeing them grow into their roles.
Swimming Carnival We are looking forward to our upcoming Swimming Carnival on Thursday. Students are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability and show great sportsmanship and team spirit throughout the day.
Prep Buddies Our Year 6 students have been doing a fantastic job interacting with their Prep Buddies. They have shown kindness, patience and responsibility when working with the younger students, and this has been a lovely example of leadership in action.
Reading Diaries: Please ensure diaries are brought in on Friday to have reading signed off. We recommend 4-5 nights of reading for at least 20mins.
Thank you for your continued support of our Year 6 students. It is wonderful to see their confidence, leadership and learning continue to grow.
Kind regards, The Year 6 Team
