Grade 5 Specialist:

Students in Grade 5 will be beginning construction on their Solar Oven Designs this week. We have some materials here at school but if students would like to start bringing in materials to assist in their building, it would be greatly appreciated. Examples could be a cardboard box, foil, cling wrap, felt.

Students in Grades 3/4 have been learning about solar power and renewable energy, exploring why these energy sources are important for our environment and future.

We were fortunate to welcome a guest speaker, Deidre Andrews from Moira Shire, who shared valuable information with the students. During the session, she engaged the class with a video clip, short quiz and demonstrated a simple experiment using a mini solar panel. Students observed how heat from the sun powered the panel, causing a small fan to move—bringing their learning to life in a fun and interactive way.
