We have had a great start back to Term 2. We would like to congratulate all the students who participated in the Cross Country on Monday. It was wonderful to see so many students having a go and thank you to all the families who attended and supported the day. We are looking forward to seeing all the Mums and special women next Friday for our Mother's Day morning.

Year 3

In Literacy, our SpellEx focus at the moment is the different ways to spell the long vowel sounds for ‘a’ & ‘e’. The students have been thoroughly enjoying reading our class text “Off We Go Around Australia”. It has been sparking many class discussions as the family visit different locations. We have said to the students that if they have been to any of these locations, we would love to see pictures so please feel free to email them to either brittstacey@sjcobram.catholic.edu.au or nathanbrown@sjcobram.catholic.edu.au

In Maths, we have just finished our unit of ‘Time’ with a rich task where the students had to create a Class Olympics. Their groups had to think of a task that could be completed by the rest of the class and come up with an estimated duration. The students all enjoyed completing the Olympic Tasks and timing themselves. We will now be moving on to our first ‘Multiplication & Division’ unit, where we will be focusing on quantities being shared and grouped into equal groups. It would be wonderful if your child could be practising their times tables at home, especially the 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 10’s. That would support us in the classroom immensely.

This term our inquiry unit is ‘Digital Technologies’. The students have enjoyed getting to use their new devices and have been learning lots about how to use these devices.

Next week, Year 3 will be attending Weekday Mass on Friday the 8th at 11.30am. Please feel free to come along with us.

Year 4

In Literacy, students have been developing their handwriting skills, with a focus on correct letter formation. We have completed our class novel Leo and Ralph, as well as a narrative writing task where students created their own stories about an imaginary friend.

Next week, we will begin a new novel, Uncle XBox. This story follows Dusty, a young boy who lives with his mother, sister, and stepfather, Marcus. When Marcus suddenly leaves and takes the Xbox with him, Dusty experiences a deep sense of loss. Motivated to buy his own, he takes on a range of odd jobs but finds it challenging to succeed. His journey shifts when his Uncle Rick arrives, introducing him to surfing and helping him develop an understanding of culture and connection to the land, known as “Country.”

In Math’s, we have finished our unit on decimals where students have learnt to recognise and extend the application of place value to tenths and hundredths and use decimal notation to name and represent decimals.

We will be starting our new unit next week on Perimeter and Area and will be learning the measurable attributes of two-dimensional shapes.

We have started our Inquiry unit – DigiTech. Students had the opportunity to use the new devices and become familiar with them and learn about inputs, outputs and storage devices.
