Week 2, Term 2
Year 1
Welcome back to all our wonderful Grade One students and families! We hope you enjoyed a relaxing and joyful Easter break. We’re excited to begin another fantastic term filled with rich learning experiences and growth.
In Literacy, we’ve started exploring new letter patterns, focusing on ‘-y’ and ‘igh’ to make the long /i/ sound. Students are also learning about adjectives and how they can be used to add detail and describe nouns in their writing.
In Mathematics, we’ve been strengthening our understanding of counting and place value. Students are building confidence in partitioning numbers into tens and ones, creating number bonds, and identifying one more and one less than two-digit numbers.
This term, our Inquiry unit will focus on Digital Technologies. Students will have the opportunity to learn about and use our new laptops, exploring a range of functions and applications in a safe and engaging way.
We’re looking forward to a wonderful Term 2!
Year 2
We welcome all Year 2 families back to Term 2. It's shaping up to be a wonderful term of learning for all our students. The students have returned very happy with beautiful, big smiles.
The children demonstrated their determination and sportsmanship when participating in our school’s cross country on Monday. They enjoyed the sunshine and their run around our school oval. We thank our parents who came along to support the children. Congratulations to all the children for participating.
Religion:
The students are currently learning about Pentecost. Students have been exploring the symbolic nature of symbols and their significance in helping people to make meaning from something that is not visible
Numeracy:
The students are currently learning about Place Value and are preparing for an assessment next week. Children have been locating numbers on a number line, using language of greater than and less than, and using Base 10 blocks and Place value charts to work out the value of a number. Next the students will be learning to measure Length.
Literacy:
Now that we are back into the swing of learning for Term 2, we would like to remind families of the importance of hearing your child read each night and to practice writing tricky words. A list of Tricky words for Term 2, will be sent home in the next week. As with last term, we require all children to be able to write and spell these words. Learning for the students requires rehearsal and repetition. Students will continue to check in with their teacher on their designated day in Term 2.
Inquiry Learning:
Our new Inquiry Unit is focusing on ICT. Students have been familiarising themselves with the Laptop Matrix around responsible and safe technology use. Students are excited and are preparing to use the new computers in the coming weeks.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us or come in and see us.
With thanks,
Mrs. Nye and Mrs. Hyde.
