French

Bonjour! The French classes have been buzzing in our learning space, with each class working well over the last two weeks to share what they want to learn about in French and their own interests. French art forms has been our first focus linking student’s overall interest in Art making.
Did you know the word collage comes from the French verb coller which means, “to glue”?
Preps have been active, learning simple greetings and actions. Just ask them to how to say Hello (Bonjour) and their name (Je m’appelle) with a wave and a gentle tap to your chest. The last two weeks our learning focus has been on collage with students collaging their front covers with French inspired images as well as collaging with a partner the French Flag using coloured squares.
Year 1/2 students have been revising their greetings incorporating actions to known phrases such as “hello, how are you?” and responses. The last two weeks our learning focus has been on collage with students collaging their front covers with French inspired images as well as collaging independently the French Flag using coloured squares.
Years 3–6 have been voicing their interests and what they want to learn in French across the year linking the two to develop cultural understanding. From this we are creating some engaging sessions for the students moving forward. Students have been revising greetings and responses with added detail and familiarising themselves with the actions developed for the Prep-2’s. Students have been sourcing their own collage materials and creating their own imagery of the French Flag. Students have learnt the history of the French flag including some historical facts around the French Revolution, the development of the constitution and symbolism of the flag.
