The Arts

Welcome to Term 1, 2026! It's been wonderful catching up with all the students at Moriac about what they have been up to over the holidays. It's also been wonderful getting to know our new Preps! We have hit the ground running and are already getting creative. All across the school we have started Music lessons, with the junior students also partcipating in Visual Arts and the senior students participating in Drama. Read on to see what students have started in their Arts learning!

Prep

In Music, the Prep students have spent the first three weeks learning how all music has a steady beat, which helps us keep in time when singing, dancing or playing instruments. In Visual Arts, we have been begun learning about the primary colours - red, blue and yellow, as well as developing our cutting, glueing, colouring and painting skills.

1/2

In Music, the 1/2 students have been creating different rhythms using musical notes. They have played these rhythms using body percussion, singing and using musical instruments. In Visual Arts, we have begun learning about famous artists from history, starting with the artists Andy Warhol and Yayoi Kusama. They have emulated their artwork with their own artistic creations.

They have sung along and played instruments to differet styles of rhythms, including syncopated rhythms. In Drama, they have been comparing the differences in improvised and rehearsed drama, including collobrating on creating short performance pieces for their peers.

5/6

In Music, the 5/6s have been learning about the music of different cultures and countries, begining with the Celtic music from Scotland, Ireland and Wales. They have learnt to sing and play along with Celtic music, and dance an Irish jig. They have even composed their own Celtic song and dance that they performed for their peers. In Drama, the students have begun developing ideas for our annual 5/6 Production, which will eventually be performed at Grovedale College at the end of Term 2.
