Level 3 & 4

TERM 2, WEEK 10

Happy final week of Term 2 – we can’t believe it; the term has flown! Our students have continued growing and learning across the term and they should be really proud of their efforts. We will be finishing off the term with our CBL challenge and celebrating the term.

Thank you for your support this term, we wish all our families a safe, warm, and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you back for a wonderful Term 4!

CURRICULUM

Literacy

Reading

We will be continuing to focus on Eddie Mabo by using a BTN episode as our mentor text. We will add to our learning from last week about Eddie Mabo, through a different medium and will focus on effective note taking and identifying key information in audio visual texts.

Writing

In Writing, we will continue to look at the structure, language and purpose of biographies. The students have selected a famous Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander who they are researching and will write their own biography about that person.

WHAT CAN YOU DO AT HOME:

  • share a biography that you have read with your child – talk about what the biography included and what made you enjoy it.

Maths

Grade 3 & 4

Both Grade 3 and 4 will be focusing on data representation. In Grade 3 the focus will be on the difference between categorical and discrete data, collecting numerical data and selecting appropriate graphical representations. Grade 4 will be comparing and evaluating graphical displays, identifying questions answered by data displays and describing distribution shapes.

WHAT CAN YOU DO AT HOME:

  • encourage students to practice their times tables. Try saying your times tables out loud, writing them down, or asking someone to quiz you. There is also Multiverse on Mathletics that can be a fun interactive way to practice.

CBL (Challenge Based Learning)

In Week 10 our exploration into Country comes to a close! We will be celebrating our learning by handing things over to the students to focus on the area that has resonated with them most and developing a presentation that they share with other students at the end of the week in a student expo.

WHAT CAN YOU DO AT HOME:

  • have a chat with your child and ask them what their focus will be at the expo and why they chose it.

Wellbeing

SWBPS

In response to what we are seeing in our classrooms, we will be focusing on taking responsibility for and showing respect for property. This will include personal, borrowed and school owned belongings. We are seeing a lack of care being taken with property at school and would love to see an improvement in this area.

Respectful Relationships

We will be focusing on problem solving. Students will identify different actions someone could take to solve a problem and identify possible consequences

of actions used to solve a problem.

INFORMATION & REMINDERS

  • please help support your child to make sure their iPad is charged and ready to use each day
  • fidget tools – as per the recent email to families we would appreciate your support in making sure students are not bringing collections of squishes/fidget toys to school. Should your child require a specific fidget tool, to support them in their learning, please make sure you speak with your child’s class teacher prior to sending them to school so that we can ensure they are being used appropriately.
