Student Representative Council

Term 1 (2nd Feb to 2nd April)  

To open the year in SRC, we placed a focus on making the student leadership team more connected and intimate to ensure we could all work together to achieve the best outcomes, and introduced the ideas of Student Voice, Agency and Leadership and discussed what this meant to us. We also aimed to make detailed agendas for our meetings, with clear plans for upcoming events. One of these events was the Swimming Carnival, so we created and decided on some house chants that we could use on the day, and potentially into the future. 

To expand our SRC team, we also welcomed our Year 7 leaders, who along with the Year 8 and 9 leaders, provide essential representation of the views and ideas of the junior school. Part of this was the brainstorm of ideas for new lunchtime clubs, to ensure that students could spend time with their friends while doing something they are interested in, outside of our classes.

Term 2 (22nd April to 3rd July)

During Term 2, SRC focused a lot on how we could ensure that our international students felt more connected and comfortable with the rest of their cohort and school. Mullauna students took part in an EAL program before school with Mitcham primary school and later we added in a lunchtime for some of the senior students to spend time with our own international students. We also started to brainstorm how students could better understand the AtoSS which was further followed up in term 3, and began looking into how we could incorporate Battle of the houses.

• Have international students more connected with the rest of the cohort, and feel more comfortable

Accomplished 

• Mitcham primary school EAL program 
• Letter to incoming year 7 students 
• Rafter led us in the Push Up Challenge – we raised $2568 and casual clothes day raised $632 for Headspace
• We celebrated our amazing Education Support Staff with a video and thank you notes

Term 3 (21st July to 25th September) 

At the start of Term 3, SRC we spent a lot of time on the AtoSS, really exploring what we could improve on and what we’re doing well as a school. We split into years different year levels to make the data more specific. We found the smaller the group, the more  contribution occurs. 

The latter part of Term 3 was a busy term for the year 12s, especially the College Captains. However, Battle of the Houses was run by House Captains, Art Captains and junior school leaders which kept SRC busy. The activities included Uno, trivia, cookie decorating, litter collection, chess and gaga ball, which was done over 4 weeks and was organised by the house captains and some of the year 7-9 leaders. When SRC met during the term, we debriefed about the busy term we’ve had. 

A number of us also participated in the school review, providing feedback on what happens in our classrooms and how the school runs in general.

• Start thinking about the SRC roles for next year

• Asked AtoSS specific questions. The responses can be found in Mr Ruff’s office 
• $733.10 raised for Freeman casual clothes day
• Performing Arts Captains were kept busy with the Contemporary Music Showcase and Theme Concert
• Wellbeing Captains ran Wear It Purple Day
