End of Term Reflections 

It’s hard to believe another busy term has come to an end! Our Grade 5/6 students have worked hard, taken on new challenges and achieved so much. They should be very proud of themselves. 

Thank you to all our families for your ongoing support. We hope everyone enjoys a safe, happy and well-earned break.  

English  

We have continued to dive deeper into our class text, Can You See Me?, exploring the characters, important themes and different points of view. The students have also begun writing persuasive letters about why schools should have therapy dogs. 

They have been working hard to make their arguments convincing by using persuasive words and phrases such as surely, clearly, it is important and we strongly believe. They have also included rhetorical questions, emotive language and strong reasons to support their opinions. There have been some thoughtful discussions and plenty of great ideas shared! 

Maths 

We have finished our learning on angles and have now moved on to decimals. The students have been exploring the place value of decimal numbers, expanding decimals and learning how each digit changes depending on its position. They have made a great start and are becoming more confident when reading, writing and working with decimals. 

Annabelle Cleeland visit 

Next Wednesday, our Year 3–6 students will welcome Annabelle Cleeland to St Mary’s. This visit links closely with the Year 5/6 Inquiry focus on civics and citizenship. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear about Annabelle’s life and journey into politics. We are looking forward to an interesting and informative visit.
