3/4 CLASSROOM

Over the past two weeks, the 3/4s have been very busy! 

In English, students have been writing persuasive letters to convince their parents to buy a robot for their home. We have explored the correct structure of a letter and persuasive techniques that can encourage a reader to agree with our ideas. This has connected well with our class novel, The Wild Robot. We have enjoyed listening to the audiobook, which has helped students distinguish between the many characters Roz encounters on the island. 

Students have also revised their spelling skills and completed their end-of-term assessment. The results have demonstrated wonderful growth across the class. 

In Maths, we have been learning about mass and capacity. Students have particularly enjoyed completing hands-on activities involving weighing objects and measuring the capacity of different containers. 

In Inquiry, we have continued our unit on managing Earth’s resources. We completed a classroom bin audit and made some very interesting discoveries! Students reflected on how we could manage our waste more responsibly and investigated where our rubbish goes after it leaves the school. We then explored the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling. Students also planned an item they could create by upcycling unwanted materials. 

In Religious Education, we have been reflecting on Jesus’ mission. We explored the work of present-day organisations, such as St Vincent de Paul, and considered how we can live out our own mission at home, at school and within the wider community. 

In Sport, we have continued preparing for our upcoming Athletics Day. The students are very excited and have been enthusiastically practising their skills. 

In Respectful Relationships, students reflected on the qualities, interests and experiences that make each of us unique. We discussed how interests are not restricted to “boy things” or “girl things” and that everyone should feel free to enjoy the activities that make them happy.
