F/1/2 Classroom
It is hard to believe we have already reached the end of Term 3! It has been another very busy and rewarding few weeks in the F/1/2 classroom, with lots of learning, special events and exciting experiences. I am incredibly proud of everything our students have achieved this term and the growth we continue to see in their confidence, independence and enthusiasm for learning.
Father’s Day & Auskick
We have enjoyed some special events over the past few weeks, including our AFL Auskick session and Father’s Day celebrations. Students had a fantastic time developing their football skills during Auskick and loved the opportunity to get outside, be active and participate alongside their classmates.
It was also wonderful to welcome so many dads, grandfathers and special people to our Father’s Day Mass, lunch and sock parade. The students were very excited to share the afternoon with their special visitors. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us and help make the day such a lovely celebration for our school community.
Literacy
There continues to be so much progress to celebrate in Literacy. Our Foundation students are now consolidating the letters and sounds they have learned throughout the year and beginning to explore more complex sounds. They are continuing to develop their confidence with reading, spelling and writing, and it has been wonderful to see how much more independently they are applying their phonics knowledge.
Year 1 students have continued building their spelling knowledge through digraphs, split digraphs and suffixes, while applying these skills across their reading and writing. Year 2 students have continued strengthening their spelling, grammar and comprehension skills, including identifying the main idea, monitoring their understanding and exploring different grammatical features.
Across F/1/2, students have also continued enjoying our Storybook and Initial Write sessions. These experiences provide lots of opportunities for students to build vocabulary, develop ideas and strengthen their sentence writing through engaging stories and shared discussions.
Mathematics
Our Foundation students have continued developing their understanding of addition and subtraction and have more recently begun exploring measurement, including comparing the mass and capacity of different objects.
Year 1 students have completed their learning around length and are now exploring patterns. Students are learning to identify, continue and create repeating and growing patterns and explain what they notice.
Year 2 students have continued strengthening their understanding of multiplication and division and are now moving into shape, where they are exploring two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes and their features.
Our Maths Groups have also continued throughout the term, providing valuable opportunities for targeted teaching in smaller groups. These sessions have allowed students to consolidate important skills, receive additional support where needed and extend their mathematical thinking.
Religion
In Religion, students have continued exploring God’s creation and what it means to care for our world and the people within it. We have discussed the wonder and beauty we can see in creation and the different ways we can show care for people and the environment through our everyday choices.
Auslan
Over the last fortnight, the F-2 students have been working through units 6b (What's on your mind?) and 6c (My family) in Auslan. They have been learning how to use thinking signs, such as 'know', 'don't know', 'wonder', and 'remember'. They had the opportunity to transfer this knowledge into playing memory to practice signing what they were thinking. The students have also learned the signs for family members. They drew their members of their immediate family and matched each family member to its signed picture.
Under the Creative Hood
We have also been fortunate to continue our work with the artists from Under the Creative Hood. Students are making wonderful progress on their collaborative creative piece and have continued sharing ideas, creating and working together throughout the process. It has been fantastic to see their creativity and confidence grow as their work continues to come together, and we are very excited to see the finished result!
Upcoming & Reminders
- Athletics Carnival – Monday: We are very excited for our Athletics Carnival this coming Monday! Students are encouraged to come dressed in their footy colours or house colours and ready for a fun day of athletics, participation and cheering one another on.
- Readers: Please ensure reader bags and any school readers are returned as we head towards the end of term.
- End of Term: We are almost there! Please keep an eye on school communications for any final reminders or information as we finish Term 3.
