The Grade 3-6 students have continued working on their unit ‘States of Matter’ over the past fortnight and will finish the unit next week.
During weeks 8 and 9, the students focused on the Particle Model of states of matter, the observable and non-observable features of states of matter, and how temperature can affect gas volume. The students have engaged in explicit teaching on these concepts, where we have investigated the features and identified them in various objects, such as whiteboard markers, water, and helium. The students have also had the opportunity to investigate how gas has weight by comparing inflated and deflated balloons' masses and investigated how heated up gas particles have a larger volume.
For the last week of term, students will be introduced to the concept of non-Newtonian fluids. They will have the opportunity to investigate Oobleck and how a state of matter can have both solid and liquid properties. The students will also end the term by engaging in their unit assessment.
