Year 7 Science

Year 7 did a science investigation to study the states of matter by forming clouds in the class. This gave students first-hand experience to differentiate solid, liquid and gas forms of matter and how the states change with the energy given or removed.

Year 12 Students Experience University-Level Science at Chemistry Day 2025

On Friday, 20 June 2025, our Year 12 Chemistry students participated in Chemistry Day 2025 at Western Sydney University (WSU), organised in partnership with LAZSTA (Local Area of the Zonal Science Teachers Association). This event formed a key component of the students’ Depth Study Assessment Task.

This enriching experience provided students with the opportunity to work in state-of-the-art university laboratories, exploring real-world applications of chemical analysis while gaining insight into tertiary study and careers in science.

🔬 Program Highlights:

Throughout the session, students engaged in two hands-on laboratory workshops aligned with the Stage 6 Chemistry syllabus:

UV/VIS and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS): Students utilised high-precision spectroscopic instruments to identify and quantify chemical substances—techniques commonly employed in fields such as environmental science, medicine, and forensics.
Gravimetric Analysis of Sulfate in Fertilisers: A classical method of analysis, this practical session involved determining the sulfate content of common fertilisers, reinforcing key concepts in analytical and environmental chemistry.

These activities not only generated meaningful data for their Depth Studies but also helped students develop essential scientific skills, including accurate measurement, data interpretation, and problem-solving.

We are proud of our students’ active participation and professionalism throughout the session and thank both Western Sydney University and LAZSTA for providing such an inspiring and enriching experience.

AVISTA Science Incursion – A Day of STEM Discovery!

On Wednesday, 11 June 2025, Evans High School proudly hosted the AVISTA Science Incursion — an electrifying and interactive STEM experience presented by Fizzics Education.

A 60-minute journey into science and innovation:

Students were captivated by demonstrations and discussions covering:

✈️ Flight and aviation

🚀 Rockets and propulsion systems

🤖 Autonomous systems and situational awareness

🧠 The importance of STEM in shaping the future

🎯 Pathways into high-tech defence industry careers

The show ignited curiosity and excitement as students discovered how robotics, artificial intelligence, and aerospace technology are woven into emerging career pathways. Many students walked away inspired, already thinking about their future subject choices and how science could shape their futures.

Year 10 Students Showcase Creativity and Science in Ecosystem Drawings

Our Year 10 Science students have recently impressed with their exceptional ecosystem drawing submissions, as part of a creative task designed to consolidate their understanding of biotic and abiotic factors within ecosystems.

Tasked with choosing an ecosystem to illustrate, students were required to:

✅ Include 10 different biotic factors (living organisms)

✅ Include 5 different abiotic factors (non-living environmental components)

✅ Ensure ecological accuracy (no polar bears in deserts!)

✅ Label each of the 15 factors clearly as either biotic or abiotic

✅ Demonstrate creativity and effort

From lush rainforests and vibrant coral reefs to intricate marine ecosystems and arid deserts, students brought science to life through art. Their drawings reflected both scientific knowledge and artistic expression.

🌟 A special congratulations to Rivanti Kumar, Sara Dalou, and Akshai Kopalakrishan for their outstanding work. Their submissions stood out for their accuracy, creativity, and detail, setting an excellent example for their peers.

👏 Well done to all students for their enthusiasm and effort. Your work has not only brightened our classrooms but also deepened our appreciation of the natural world.

HSC Chemistry in Action – Learning with Laughter!

A picture is worth a thousand words — and the latest series of classroom photos says it all! Our HSC Chemistry students have been diving deep into complex scientific concepts while keeping the atmosphere energetic, collaborative, and fun.

From hands-on experiments and titration investigations to equilibrium demonstrations and molecular model building, these snapshots capture the joy of learning when theory meets practice — and when students support one another with smiles and curiosity.

Whether it’s balancing equations on the whiteboard or exploring real-world chemical applications in group activities, it’s clear our senior chemists are not only mastering the syllabus but also enjoying the journey.

We are proud of the positivity, persistence, and teamwork these students bring to the lab and classroom each day. Their enthusiasm is proof that rigorous learning can go hand-in-hand with laughter and creativity.
