CAPA Term 2, 2025

Visual Arts

All stages of Visual Arts have been busy this term, completing a number of tasks in a range of material practices and exploring a range of conceptual topics. Year 7 finished their Illuminated Manuscripts and then explored Ancient Egypt in the making of a canopic jar. Year 8 Visual Arts completed a clay fish and camouflage drawing and are now ready to move over to Music for semester 2. Year 9 are busy starting their clay vase that they have designed based on an exploration of some of the most important vase form artifacts throughout time and place in our world. Year 10 is now working on creating a detailed lino print based on the practice of M.C. Escher and their A2 tessellation drawings. Preliminary Visual Arts turned into HSC and are now busy developing ideas for their final artwork in a student-selected expressive form.

Visual Design

All classes in Visual Design have also been busy completing projects in a number of design areas. Year 9 are finishing their exploration of colour with the production of paintings that focus on the structural elements. Year 10 has finalised their large-scale drawing in Tattoo design and are now developing ideas in the design and making of a ceramic pot. Preliminary Visual Design turned into HSC and are now exploring architecture to design and make a candle house based on a select architectural form or style.

Music

It has been a vibrant and creative term in Music! Year 7 students have explored the exciting world of percussion, learning the basics of the drum kit, ukulele, and keyboard. Year 8 have taken their skills to the next level by forming bands for group performances and composing their own melodies, which they then recorded using music software to produce original tracks. Meanwhile, Year 9 have dived into the world of Classical Music and Small Ensemble performance, showcasing their versatility by performing pieces across various genres. In Year 10, students have been enthusiastically rehearsing for the World Refugee Show, preparing powerful performances that celebrate diversity and unity through music.

Drama

What a fantastic term for our Year 9 Drama students! They have been working incredibly hard exploring the world of musical theatre  - learning about performance, characterisation, and the history of the genre. As part of their studies, they recently completed thoughtful essays reflecting on what they've learned so far. To top it all off, we were lucky enough to have a visiting artist from Belvoir Theatre run an inspiring four-hour workshop. The focus was on improvisation and character building, and the students threw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm and creativity. It was a joy to watch them grow in confidence and skill throughout the day.

Photography

Students of photography and digital media have been working hard on a number of different projects.

Senior students are currently using our brand new mirrorless digital cameras and mics to film the footage required for the short film scripts they wrote in groups. There will be seven films of various genres submitted from this cohort, and we can’t wait to see the finished films! The seniors are also working on their final personal project where they are individually choosing a photographic technique and theme. These are slowly shaping up to be really fascinating images and will be shown at the senior showcase in Term 3.

Year 9 students have been studying the work of Slinkachu and in response, have been using miniatures to create their own tiny scenes with an emphasis on parody, situational irony or satire.

Year 10 have just started a unit on artist books and zines and have been using photographs taken in class to place into a series of zines. They will make three zines in total, and the final zine will be on a topic of their choosing.
