Refugee Week 2024

Finding Freedom: Family

Our students were invited to Melton Primary School on the 19th of June to participate in Melton City Council's Refugee Week celebrations.  Many thanks to our Cultural Ambassador Charlotte Nagahesi for looking after our girls, Maua, Noella, Fatuma, Anifa, Roda, Roza, Divine, and Hepy.  The students' performance was well received by council guests, students, and teachers.

We were also joined by alumni and former Cultural Ambassador, Si Ngun Aye,  as one of the panel speakers. She shared her refugee story of trials and success.

Well done, Si Ngun, and we look forward to seeing more of your amazing work as you study your Bachelors in Community Development.

On the 20th of June, I paneled for council's 'Unity in Exodus: Celebrating Family in Finding Freedom' Symposium at the Fraser Rise Children's & Community Centre.  I spoke from a school perspective and discussed the challenges our refugee background families and students face, as well as the kind of supports that are available at our college.
