Andrew Nielson

Andrew recently won the Murray Grand Prix Youth Darts tournament over the weekend of 26th – 28th of April.

What is an amazing feat, Andrew currently sits 19th in the World Rankings for Youth Boys, 24th in the 2024 World Championship Race Table World Darts Federation Main Ranking for Youth Boys and ranks 3rd in the Youth Boys Australia Rankings.

This is an amazing achievement by one of our Staughton students and should be celebrated! Well done Andrew! Looking forward to seeing what you achieve in the future in the sport!

Ava Collins

Congratulations to Radio Captain and Staughton College student Ava Collins on her nomination for the Boost Juice Youth leadership award. I sat down and had a one-on-one interview with our star Year 10 student during the week.

"Ava, you have been a busy girl in supporting the Youth in a political level, working with Steve McGhie on a state front and taking it to the next level and working with Sam Rae the Federal Labor member for Hawke".

"I am a youth advisor of Steve McGhie, I work alongside Kaylee, an electorate officer for Steve and many other young people who contribute brilliant ideas to the betterment of Melton as a cohort. We meet at Steve's office once or twice a month to discuss future plans with immediate concern. An example of this includes; quiet time in the Melton library, talking about good news plans, future project ideas and time to discuss any curiosities and concerns.

I have recently just started working alongside Sam Rae and I’m very excited to start my journey with them and see what it is to be a federal youth advisor"

"Ava, you have been nominated for the Boost Youth Leadership Award and the nomination, was put forward by the next group, I will ask you about the Young Women's Leadership Program".

"This was a 7 week program of learning and building a deep understanding of life long skills, such as; making lifelong friends and decisions. I completed a variety of workshops including; public speaking, preventing burnout, time management and many more covering skills I will apply in my day to day life. Alex Salvatore, a young community worker. Helped run the whole program at the centre and provided a safe and open environment".

"Ava, your community contribution to Melton is first class, as I would know, I am lucky to be on this journey with you, could you explain what community activities you are involved in".

"I work with you Will, on community radio station 97.9FM, During my 4 years of learning the ways of air, alongside you and my fellow peers, i have further excelled and have begun my journey of working the panel one of our late night shows ‘Fresh’ in order to prepare myself for the task of taking on my own radio show. We have one group a week attend the studio every Thursday with students ranging from year levels 7-12.

In my free time, I work with my radio group, the Homework Club to volunteer my time at the gap on graham; working with children ages 6-12, helping young children get on the dance floor and engage in the party, building the social and confidence skills by interacting with other children and dancing with them, running the games and assisting you with the MC duties, and a part of my job is to make sure that the parents are okay as well, asking them if they need anything or any assistance needed".

"And Ava it is a pleasure to work with you.

Now Ava tell me about your school leadership at Staughton College, I do remember something you told way back in Year 7, that your biggest ambition would be to be School Captain of Staughton College, how is that going for you".

"I work alongside my school as a sustainability and curriculum leader, as a sustainable leader it is me and my teams job to help our school garden and plan events regarding the environment such as world environment day on the 5th of June while being a curriculum leader, my team and I work to help and plan anything in regards to Math, Science and English; encouraging children within their core subjects and to overall promote positivity towards English, Maths, Science while being environmentally friendly".

"Ava I wish you the best on your nomination for the Boost Juice Youth Leadership Award, if I had my way, the award would be yours, but this is out of my control, what I can give you, is how lucky I am, to work with you with our school community projects".
