Principal's Message

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you and your family enjoyed some relaxing and enjoyable time together during the extended mid-year break. The mid-year break is a great opportunity for our young people and staff to slow down, reconnect with family and friends, and return to school genuinely ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities that Semester 2 brings.

The mid-year break also provides a moment for reflection. While the semester academic report is only one form of feedback that we provide students and parents, I trust that you have had an opportunity to sit down together and read them carefully — not only for the grades, but for the story they tell. Celebrate the successes, of course, but give equal attention to the challenges. A report that flags a struggle is not a verdict; it is a starting point. The most valuable conversation you can have with your child is this: what are the goals and targets for Semester 2, and what concrete actions will get us there? A student who can name what they want to improve, and how they intend to improve it, is already halfway there.

Service Learning at All Saints’ College

I want to acknowledge the wonderful success of the Teach Learn Grow (TLG) tour to Fitzroy Crossing during the holidays. This service-learning trip is one of the most powerful experiences we offer. Our students stepped well beyond their comfort zones, lived and worked alongside a remote community, and returned with a deeper understanding of country, culture, and their own capacity to contribute. My sincere thanks to the staff who gave up their break to make it possible, and to the students who represented the College with such generosity of spirit.

AI in Education

Looking ahead, there is a larger conversation all schools must now have with their communities. Artificial intelligence continues to disrupt many industries, and education is no exception. The question is not whether AI will shape the lives and careers of our young people—it already does—but rather what do we need to do to ensure that we are preparing our students to engage with AI critically, ethically and confidently. All Saints’ College has always been at the forefront of educational innovation, and we will continue to lead in ways that genuinely meet the needs of our students in this space, rather than simply chasing the latest trend.

To that end, I am pleased to introduce Dr Leon Furze who has been engaged to work closely with the College throughout this year. Leon is an international consultant, author and speaker with over fifteen years of experience in secondary and tertiary education and leadership. Leon is studying for his PhD in the implications of Generative Artificial Intelligence on writing instruction and education. The College has engaged Leon to ensure that our approaches, policies, processes and classroom practice reflect the very best of current thinking. This is not about AI for its own sake; it is about equipping our students to think deeply, write well and use powerful tools critically and responsibly.

Wishing every student, family and staff member a rewarding and joyful Term 3. May it be a term of growth, of meaningful challenge, and of real accomplishment.
