Term 2 Week 2 - 1st May 2026

Welcome to Term 2! It has been wonderful to see how quickly the Prep students have settled back into school life. They were so excited to reconnect and spend time with their friends again, and there has been a lovely, positive energy in the classrooms.

Weeks 1& 2 have been busy. We  focused on reconnecting, revisiting our classroom routines and expectations, and getting straight back into our learning. The students have done a fantastic job remembering what helps our classrooms run smoothly.

We are looking forward to a busy and fun term ahead, filled with lots of learning, growth and exciting experiences!

If you need to speak with your child’s class teacher, please feel free to email to arrange a suitable time. Mornings can be quite busy as we prepare for the students to enter the classroom, so scheduling a time ensures we can give you our full attention.

Dates coming up

5th & 13th May - Fire Ed Program

15th May - Camp Quality Performance P-2

What we are learning!

Maths:

In Maths, our Prep students have been learning about partitioning. Partitioning means breaking a number into smaller parts. For example, the number 6 can be split into 5 and 1, or 3 and 3. The students are beginning to develop their understanding of this concept using 5 and 10 frames, as well as counters to help them see and move the numbers. These hands-on materials support them in visualising how numbers can be made in different ways. It has been wonderful to see the students exploring numbers and starting to build confidence with partitioning!

Literacy:

Our literacy sessions run from 9.10am right through until 11.30am. We appreciate families ensuring students arrive promptly each morning so that all literacy learning can begin on time. A settled and punctual start to the day allows students to fully participate in our literacy block and maximises valuable teaching and learning time.

In Literacy, we continue with our structured morning block each day. The students are gaining confidence and are beginning to take on the challenge of writing CVC (consonant–vowel–consonant) words independently. Some students are now writing multiple words and, with support, are attempting simple sentences. We are focusing on remembering to use an uppercase letter at the beginning, finger spaces between words, and a full stop at the end. We also provide regular reminders to keep letters sitting neatly on the lines.

Readers continue to be sent home. We kindly ask that you continue to proactive reading with your child each night.  Home readers should not be difficult for your child. Please remember to fill in the reading diary with notes on how they are progressing as we do read these regularly.
