Welcome back to Term 2!

All students explored the significance of ANZAC Day and what it represents. As part of our commemoration, every student created a poppy to be placed in the garden during our ANZAC Day assembly.

Foundation students made poppy wristbands, while Year 1โ€“6 students created poppy artworks using a variety of materials including dry pastels, oil pastels, paper, and collage techniques.

Students also continued completing artworks from last term and were introduced to the Elements of Art.

Foundation students completed their ROYGBIV rainbow clouds, using primary colours and mixing them to create secondary colours directly on their paper.

Year 1/2 students completed their flower collages, demonstrating their understanding of colour mixing and composition.

Year 3/4 students created a Geometric Line Collage, gluing strips of paper to form intersecting and parallel lines in a bold and colourful artwork. They were also introduced to the seven Elements of Art: line, colour, value, shape, space, texture, and form. Students represented each element through creative designs using a pentagonal net template.ย

Year 5/6 students were introduced to one-point perspective and began creating circular cityscape scenes, exploring depth, line, and space in their drawings.

We look forward to another exciting term of creativity, learning, and artistic growth.

PEย

Last week we welcomed the students back to school and we started all students with an introductory lesson for Netball. Students worked on basic skills of passing and catching, with a big focus on catching with their hands, not their arms (like a bear hug). It was pleasing to see so many students really improve with their passing and catching skills. From this point students played minor games to work on these skills. They worked with a partner to move the ball from one area to another. Then they worked with a small group to work as a team to move the ball from one end of the hall or court to the other. Remembering that in netball, you canโ€™t walk or run when you have the ball, so you need to pass, then move.

This week students in all classes continued to develop these basic skills, but then worked on game play. They were encouraged, to think about who and where to pass the ball, where to run to and position themselves to be more effective within the game.

Although the focus has been on netball, these skills are transferable across multiple sports and games.

Music

ย

After minimal Music in Term 1, students have hit the ground running and leapt back into their music learning with enthusiasm and gusto. The first two weeks of Term 2 have been dedicated to learning about rhythm and polishing the song โ€œHall of Fameโ€ which students from the choir performed incredibly confidently on Leadership Day. The choir should be very proud of the way they performed and rose to the challenge despite limited rehearsals and time to prepare.

ย

Preps:

The first two weeks have seen the preps learning about simple clapping patterns. Using a call and response technique students have been clapping out different combinations of half notes and quarter notes. In the next fortnight the preps will continue their expiration of rhythm with the aim of creating their own clapping pattern which they will perform to their class.

ย

1 / 2

The Grades 1s and 2s have also been learning about basic rhythm including crotchets, quavers, crotchet rest and minims. Students participated in a drumming circle using clapping sticks to clap out different patterns. Over the next two weeks students will continue to explore different rhythms including semibreves and quaver rests as well as creating a 4 bar pattern which they will write using sheet music.

ย

3 / 4ย

ย

This Term the Year 3 and 4 students have been exploring rhythm with a focus on transferring this knowledge to playing simple guitar songs using a single string. Students will be learning over the next two weeks how to read fret sheet music and how to play a note clearly on a guitar.

ย

5 / 6ย

ย

The 5 / 6 students have begun this term by exploring an introduction to film making. Students have been learning about 6 basic types of film shots and how these can be used to create a scene. They have also begun experimenting with simple editing tools using iMovie to edit a simple scene using a long shot, a mid shot and a close up.

ย

Broadcasters

ย

This week in the Broadcasters students began using iMovie to film and edit footage of the chickens to see how footage can be cut together. In the coming weeks students will be filming and editing their own sequences which will go into the Termly Broadcaster Episodes. If your child is interested in learning about film making and using editing tools please tell them to join Mr Earl and the Broadcasting team in the Library on Thursday and Lunchtime. This club is open to all ages and a reminder will be given over the loud speaker each week.
