Amazing 5/6

From the Teachers
We’ve had a busy and exciting start to Term 2 in Year 5/6! Our Year 6 leaders have shown great initiative and responsibility, working hard to organise several events already this term, including a special ANZAC assembly and our Leadership Morning.
We would like to congratulate all students involved in Leadership Morning; whether they were delivering speeches, participating in classroom 7 Habits activities, or confidently speaking during school tours. It was wonderful to see students representing our school with such pride and enthusiasm.
Learning Focuses
Literacy - Biographies
In Literacy, students have been exploring biographies. We have been learning about the lives and achievements of three inspiring animal experts and environmental scientists/conservationists. Students are identifying key features of biographical texts and using this knowledge to eventually begin planning and writing their own biographies.
Mathematics - Multiplication & Order of Operations
In Maths, our focus has been on fractions. Students have been developing their understanding of how to compare fractions using a range of strategies, including finding common denominators and using visual models. It’s been great to see students building confidence with these concepts.
Inquiry
Our new Inquiry unit involves exploring habitats and the interconnectedness of living things. Students have been learning about different animal habitats, food chains, and the roles organisms play within ecosystems. We have also begun discussions around endangered species and the importance of protecting our environment. This is leading up to our excursion to Melbourne Zoo in Week 5. The students are looking forward to this trip greatly!
