3D

3D Learning Update

In Inquiry, 3D students have been exploring the question, “How does our country continue to change?” They have been learning about the different groups and people who have shaped Australia’s history, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, convicts and settlers. Students have worked together to create anchor charts and build their understanding of important historical vocabulary, including words such as convict, colony and free settlers.

In Literacy and Literature, 3D has been learning about prefixes and suffixes and how they can change the meaning of words. They have also planned and written a personal recount based on Finding Our Heart by Thomas Mayo. 3D students have been working hard to “bump up” their writing by incorporating adverbials into their sentences, helping them to add greater detail and make their writing more engaging for the reader.

In Mathematics, students have completed the 2D Shapes unit, where they learned to classify different shapes and developed their understanding of mathematical vocabulary such as faces and vertices. They also explored symmetry and rotational symmetry in 2D shapes. Students have also completed our addition and subtraction unit, learning and applying a range of strategies to solve problems, including bar models, the compensation strategy, the formal algorithm and fact families. 3D has continued to make outstanding progress in Mathematics and it has been wonderful to hear so many students sharing that it is their favourite subject!

3D has had a fantastic start to the term and it has been wonderful to see students embracing new learning with such enthusiasm and curiosity. They are working hard, supporting one another and loving their learning!
