CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN
Just like that, the words every single Year 12 student has heard no short of a hundred times is becoming a reality. “This year will fly by”. It felt like last week that we were racing to get to the end of Year 11, and only yesterday that we came back to school after summer break as the class of 2025, but now, just like that, we are a third of the way through our official terms at McKinnon.
I never truly believed that the end of my schooling journey would ever be in sight, and even though we still have a stretch of it left, to place 6 months in comparison to 13 years feels surreal, as what we’ve all thought of as impossibly far away is slowly creeping closer.
As we enter this next term of even more SACs than could possibly fit into a week, endless due dates, assignments, essays and for some of us, even practice exams (nearly there for Northern Hemisphere Maths!), we are also preparing for some of the key moments that make this year what many would argue as the best schooling year of our lives. With the long-awaited event of the year, Trivia Night, too many excursions and incursions to count and of course our much anticipated and symbolic Year 12 hoodies to name a few, there’s always something to remind us that this year is more than just grades and rankings.
On behalf of all Senior Captains, we wish all students, families and staff a fresh and positive start to the new term.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN
First of all, I would like to extend a huge welcome back to students at both East and McKinnon Road campuses, especially the Year 7s who have finally settled into the McKinnon school life. I cannot wait to see what unfolds this year.
I believe this term is very important because semester reports will be issued at the end of the term, so every learning task contributes to your greater success. As it is Term 2, uniform checks will be conducted to ensure that we wear our blazers to and from school.
We have many events lined up, such as a Year 8 camp, four school tours around May, and many more to come. Please try to remember that we will have to show our very best as the visitors will walk around the classrooms on both campuses.
I hope this will be an enjoyable Term 2, and I encourage everyone to uphold the McKinnon school values throughout the next ten weeks.
