BOOK OF THE WEEK

May the Best Player Win by Kyla Zhao

May Li, a middle-school chess champion, is riding high after winning a state tournament and receiving a special award as the top female player, earning her a spotlight in her school's achievement campaign. However, the recognition sparks jealousy among teammates - especially her friend Ralph - who question her abilities. Determined to prove herself, May bets Ralph she can win the school’s internal tournament and lead the team at nationals. As pressure mounts, May's anxiety begins to undermine her love for chess and her performance. To succeed, she must rediscover the joy in the game.

EAST CAMPUS

Our Library team is always working to improve the reading experience for our students. Most recently, we’ve started adding genre stickers to our fiction collection East Campus. These labels make it easier for students to find books that match their interests and support their wide reading choices.

So far, we’ve included stickers for some of the most popular genres among our readers, including fantasy, mystery, adventure, science fiction, love stories, school stories, humour, and dystopian fiction. We hope this small change helps students explore new titles.

  • Books are available at East Campus for personal reading or wide reading;

  • The book collection is located on Level 2 at East Campus near the Student Managers' Office;

  • These books can be read and returned to the shelves when the student is finished;

  • The collection includes fiction books, nonfiction books and graphic novels;

  • New books are added to the collection throughout the year.

Book Returns:

  • Books are to be returned to the shelves when students have finished with them;

Reservations:

  • The books at McKinnon Road campus library are also available to students based at East Campus. Students may place reservations via the library catalogue. Library staff deliver to East Campus once per week;

  • Books that have been reserved must be returned in the return box near the book collection;

  • Please contact library staff for assistance with reservations.
