VCE SEASON OF EXCELLENCE EXCURSION

On Wednesday 23 April, students of 3/4 Media and Visual Communication Design visited the city to gather inspiration, ideas and important curriculum information relating to their school-assessed task (SAT) folio work in each subject.

They visited Melbourne Museum in the morning to attend TOP DESIGNS, part of the VCAA Season of Excellence program. This exhibition showcases exceptional work created by students in both studies who completed VCE in 2024, providing accessible visual touchstones for students to understand the diverse and highly individual ways that folio criterion may be addressed.

In the afternoon, students visited The Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI), where Media students attended a TOP SCREEN session to view a collection of the most outstanding student films and animations from 2024 Media Studies. Vis Com students were able to view the permanent exhibition Story of the Moving Image, which provided a historical and contemporary overview of visual languages and presentation formats across each field of design practice.

TOP DESIGNS is running until Sunday 20 July 2025 from 9am to 5pm at Melbourne Museum and entry for students is free. It is highly recommended that students of both 3/4 Media and Visual Communication Design attend in their own time to consolidate their understanding of SAT folio criteria.

TOP DESIGNS STUDENT PERSPECTIVE

Our first stop was at the Melbourne Museum, where we engaged with previous VCE Vis Com students' folio work and creations. The designs showcased a wide range of creative approaches and technical skills, helping us become inspired and gain an understanding of the standard of work expected for our own SAT.

Our next stop was at ACMI, where we engaged with various exhibits to gain an understanding of the crossover between the four fields of design practice we study: environments, messages, interactive experiences and objects. ACMI allowed us to explore storytelling through immersive and interactive design. We got to explore the museum with a lens collecting information allowing us to revisit our experience at home. Overall, this excursion provided us with inspiration for our folios in an entertaining way.
