Semi Final - 3 September v Ballarat Clarendon College

Our BAS netballers (finishing third in the home and away games) took to the court for a knockout Semi Final against Ballarat Clarendon College, who finished second on the ladder.

The match began with both teams going goal for goal, before Ballarat capitalised on two turnovers to establish a five-goal lead at half time. The intensity remained high in the second half, with our players working tirelessly to stay in the contest. Despite some skill errors creeping in, the team showed great resilience, teamwork and perseverance through to the final whistle.

This match marked the conclusion of our first season back in the BAS competition. Congratulations to all 15 members of our BAS netball squad for their commitment at training since the beginning of Term 2 and for securing a finals appearance in our return season.

A special thank you to Will Jamieson, our Academy Netball coach, for his support at training and to Mr Terry Molan for his time driving the team to Ballarat and assisting with scoring duties. We also extend our thanks to Old Collegian, Molly O’Brien, for coming along to umpire each week.

GD Basketball - Year 7 & 8

Our Year 7 and 8 basketball teams have delivered an outstanding performance this season, dominating the Glenelg Division Competition against other schools in our region. All four of our teams went undefeated throughout the competition winning all games. The teams controlled the boards from start to finish, showcasing exceptional rebounding and defensive play that left their opponents struggling to find scoring opportunities.

This has earned all four teams a place in the Greater Western Region (GWR) Competition, which will be held in Ballarat in November. This regional tournament represents the next level of competition, where our teams will face off against the best teams from across the greater western region.

The success of our basketball program is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and senior students who have coached and managed the teams. Thanks to the staff; Belinda Carroll, Kate Couchman, Tyler Fehsler and Sharna Taylor along with our senior students, Kareem Muhktar, Grace Cleaver, Danial Spillman and Tianra Keegan.

We wish all four teams the very best of luck as they prepare for the GWR Competition in November.

Netball Victoria School State Championships

Our Year 9/10 netball team after winning the the regional competition put in many hours on the court, under the tutelage of Ms Couchman, to ensure they were ready for the recent state championships.

The tournament began with some early challenges, as our team faced tough opposition in their opening matches. Despite struggling to find their rhythm in the first couple of games, the girls never gave up and continued to support each other through the difficult moments.

The turning point came with a stunning upset victory against Western Heights, the competition leaders who had been sitting at the top of the ladder. This remarkable win proved that our team had the skill and mental toughness to compete with the very best, sending a clear message to all other competitors.

The final two games of the championship were tough, with the score changing a number of times throughout, and we unfortunately went down in both games.

While the results may have been mixed, the growth and determination displayed by the netball team at state championships has set a solid foundation for future success. We couldn't be prouder of their effort and sportsmanship.

GD Clay Target Hamilton

Our clay target shooting team delivered an exceptional performance at the recent Glenelg Division Clay Target Competition, showcasing their skill and precision throughout the event.

The team shot well on the day, demonstrating the results of their training. Their excellent marksmanship and consistent shooting earned them second place in the school team division.

Georgie Harris and Brylee Clancy shot very well to take out second and third places respectively for the experienced girls. Mason Sheldrake, in his first and final year of clay target shooting, won the Best Shot for the novice group (under 12 months shooting).

The weather held off and although it was windy we had good shooting weather. The rain only came in as the presentations were being made.

Thanks to the Hamilton Clay Target Club for supporting the GD Committee. The club's volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure everything ran smoothly, from loading traps to serving in the canteen to those working in the armoury.

Special thanks to our dedicated parent helpers who provided invaluable support, from transportation to encouragement on the sidelines, and scoring.

The positive experience and strong results have generated excitement for next year's competition. We're already looking forward to expanding our participation and hope to field an even larger team in 2026, building on this year's success and growing interest in the sport.

Glenelg Division Badminton and Table Tennis

What an exciting and busy day it was at the Year 7 and 8 GD Table Tennis and Badminton competition, with our students delivering fantastic performances across both table tennis and badminton events. The day was filled with intense competition and impressive displays of skill from all participants.

Billy Fitzpatrick dominated the A grade table tennis section, remaining undefeated throughout the entire competition to claim the top prize. Oscar Smith also showcased his talent by winning the B grade section with consistent and determined play. Meanwhile, Kobe Fitzgerald proved to be a force to be reckoned with on the badminton courts, taking out the male singles competition with his quick movement and excellent racquet skills that left his opponent struggling to match his intensity and skill level.

Thanks to Mr Price for his organization and supervision and Ms Shannon for looking after the teams on the day.

House Clay Target Competition

What began as a small but enthusiastic group of clay target shooters, turned into one of the most exciting competitions of the year, with fierce rivalry and exceptional shooting on display at our House Clay Target Competition.

Despite lower than normal numbers, the level of competition was incredibly strong, with participants demonstrating remarkable skill and determination throughout the event.

The house competition came down to a nail-biting shoot-off between Hartzer and Treand, with both houses refusing to give an inch. When the clays settled, it was the sharp shooting of the Hartzer team that proved decisive. The winning team consisted of Seamus Byron, Eddie Steele, and Sam O'Dowd. Their consistent accuracy and composure under pressure secured victory for their house.

Individual results showed the depth of talent among our shooters. Seamus Byron claimed the coveted High Gun award, taking out the competition with 22/25 demonstrating exceptional shooting skills. Harry Bourke with 19/25 secured a well-deserved first place with his consistent performance, while Mikayla Bygate with 26/35 came second after another tense shoot-off winning by just two shots reflecting her dedication to developing her skills and technique. Emily Jellie also earned recognition taking out the most improved trophy.
