Acting Principal's Report

Fiona Mulhall

Dear Parents and Carers

It is with sadness that I share the news of the passing of Old Collegian, Mackenzie Mason (Class of 2022), who was tragically killed in an accident in Dunkeld.  Mackenzie’s loss will have a profound impact on many in our community, including those at St Mary’s Primary School and within the Dunkeld community.  Personally, I have such wonderful memories of a vibrant, determined, and courageous young woman who brought joy and laughter to many people.  Please keep Mackenzie’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this heartrending time.

Eternal rest grant unto Mackenzie, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.   May she rest in peace. Amen.

This week and term concluded with our Mission Fair Day, a significant opportunity to live out the call “To be on earth the heart of God” by raising awareness and vital funds for the MSC Mission Office.  During Mass, we reflected on our role in the world, the importance of showing love to all people, and how small actions, undertaken with generosity, can achieve meaningful change.  As missionaries of hope, we are inspired to bring goodness into the world through compassion, service, and by following the example of Jesus.  As members of Monivae community, we are called to engage with global and social justice issues, particularly the urgent impact of climate change on the world’s most vulnerable.

Term three has provided many wonderful learning opportunities for our students inside and outside the classroom.  It has been pleasing to see many students excel in sporting events, outdoor ed camps, retreats and academic initiatives.  The Performing Arts department continue to excel with the impressive play and outstanding music concert that celebrated the talent and hard work of these students.  A huge congratulations to all students and teachers who have provided the unique and special opportunities for our students.

This break is a great opportunity to reflect on the learnings and consolidate knowledge and skills.  We especially think of our senior students as they prepare for Units 3 & 4 VCE exams early Term 4.

This month is the Season of Creation.  The theme is: ‘Peace with Creation’ The Biblical text for this year is Isaiah 32:14-18.  The prophet Isaiah pictured the desolated Creation without peace because of the lack of justice and the broken relationship between God and humankind.  This description of devastated cities and wastelands eloquently stresses the fact that human destructive behaviours have a negative impact on the Earth.  Our hope: Creation will find peace when justice is restored.  There is still hope and the expectation for a peaceful Earth.

To hope in a biblical context does not mean to stand still and quiet, but to act, pray, change, and reconcile with Creation and the Creator in unity, metanoia (repentance), and solidarity. source https://seasonofcreation.org/

God of Life,

You love the universe into being,

Let us give praise.

You embrace the world without distinction,

Let us give thanks.

You call humanity to make flesh Your tenderness,

Let us live accordingly.

You endow all creation with Your divine beauty and wisdom,

Let us acknowledge.

You forgive all trespasses.

Let us learn Your ways.

You grace us unconditionally,

Let us receive humbly.

You are our hope,

Let us remember.

Amen.
