As a school community, we were devastated to learn of the sudden passing of Old Collegian, Mackenzie Mason (Class of 2022). We remember Mackenzie as a warm and vibrant member of our college community. Mackenzie’s zest for life was infectious and we remember her for her enthusiastic spirit during her time at Monivae. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mason family, and all who knew and loved Mackenzie.
Mission Fair Day was celebrated on the last day of Term with a Mass celebrated by Fr. Patrick Mugavin, Fr. Roger Purcell MSC, Fr. Ted McCormack MSC and Fr. Cay Trinh. It was inspiring to hear about Year 11 student, Leigh Hildson's mission experience in Cambodia, Fr Paddy’s mission work in South America and how Sr. Stella and her team are using the monies donated from the St Mary Mackillop Parish to improve the living conditions of some of God’s most vulnerable people in India. We were blessed to have the Director of the MSC Mission Office Australia, Fr Roger Purcell with us on Mission Fair Day. Fr. Roger spoke about how the Mission distributes the money to fund projects around the world to change lives; donations received from fundraising occasions such as our Mission Fair Day activities. At Monivae, we encourage our students to be involved in helping out others as much as they can.
Next newsletter will have the official money raised from Mission Fair Day. Over the last twelve months, money has gone to many organisations including St Vincent de Paul (both nationally and locally), Caritas Australia and of course, the MSC Missions Office.
"We will be attentive as our Founder was to those who suffer and are in need. We will seek to identify the causes of their suffering and to discern what our response will be by following the light of the gospel and by listening to the world and to the Church. In the poor and the little ones, in all the victims of injustice and violence, we will discover the face of Christ. He asked us to bring his love into their lives. In answer to his call, we will show our compassion towards them by working courageously to guarantee their human rights and to change the hearts of their oppressors (MSC constitution #21/23).
Last week, Mr McMahon and his merry band of helpers, Year 11 students: Tahlia Harris, Olivia Page, Nellie Mullins and Adele Cook served a delicious two-course meal to the Uniting Church guests in Hamilton. Thank you to all involved for your contribution.
Our "Tinnies for Vinnie’s" campaign has really taken off in the last week and we are so grateful for all the donations received. At this stage, it is a tight competition between Hartzer and Issoudun for the overall House winner.
Coming up next Term will be the reflection day for the Year 8 students, as well as end of year Liturgies and the Graduation Liturgy. Also, Mr Joachim Rymarz and I will be accompanying eight students to the Australian Catholic Youth Festival in Melbourne where students are empowered to live their faith, connect with other young people and deepen their relationship with Jesus.
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved.
