Enrich Excursion
to the Wannon Water Treatment Plant
Kathleen Haworth
On Wednesday, 10th September, 7.5 went on an excursion to the Wannon Water Treatment Plant in Hamilton, during one of our double periods.
The excursion was a culmination of our Term 3 Enrich unit ‘Water in the World’. Throughout the unit, students explored the importance, distribution, and management of water as a resource through the lens of visual literacy.
Our time at the Treatment Plant was spent in two groups which swapped around half way through the session. One group had a tour of the facility with facilitators who explained the processes and operations of the plant. The other group had an opportunity to do some hands-on activities, using various materials to try to filter water, testing its quality to assess how well they did.
We thank the team at Wannon Water for their time in sharing their knowledge and expertise with us. A particular thank you to Naomi Turner, Wannon Water's Community Education and Engagement Officer, for reaching out to us about the opportunity to see, in person, the work of water purification and storage and for sharing many resources with us. We look forward to the potential to expand this as an opportunity next year. We also extend a thank you to Ms Neeson for accompanying us.
