👷VET Pathways & WPL

VET/WPL News
As we approach the end of term, it’s important to acknowledge that this may be the last time I see some of our Year 12 students. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with them, observe their progress, and support them through both successes and challenges. It’s been rewarding to be part of their development and see how much they’ve grown. Please remember that we are here to support students even once they have left Mazenod.
YEAR 12 STUDENTS:
Just a reminder that Year 12 students need to do their Work Placement Learning (WPL) unless they’ve already locked in an apprenticeship, full-time job, or have two or fewer exams left. It’s a great chance to check out what you might want to do in the future, so make the most of it. WPL runs from Monday, 13 October to Thursday, 23 October, then students return to school on the Friday the Graduation Assembly.
NM/SM Tafe
Enrolments are now open for North & South TAFE! Visit their website to explore available courses and learn about the application process. Keep in mind that the process may take some time. Your son will need a resume and a USI (Unique Student Identifier), which can be created at usi.gov.au.
Employment Opportunities
In the coming months, many organisations will be posting apprenticeship opportunities for 2026. Encourage students to apply via SEEK and Indeed. The boys are always welcome to practice their interview questions at any time, even after they’ve applied.
YEAR 11 STUDENTS:
By now, Year 11s should’ve applied for one-year VET courses at TAFE — offers come out in Term 4. Don’t forget to sort out your WPL placements for Weeks 6 and 7, from Monday, 17th November to Friday, 28 November.
YEAR 10 STUDENTS:
If your son has applied for TAFE, offers will be sent next term, and the CTF have been in touch regarding interviews.
Last week, the I&E students completed their Barista Training — a useful skill to have, even if they’re not planning to work in hospitality. There were plenty of interesting reactions, and for a classroom full of coffee-fueled teenagers, they represented the College really well. The I&E students are about to begin their Term 3 work experience, and I’m looking forward to visiting them during their placements! The final WPL for Year 10 will be from Monday, 24 November to Friday, 28 November. Forms will be distributed next term.
