Languages Week

Mazenod College Languages Week – FERRAGOSTO

FRIDAY 15 AUGUST 2025

The final event of Languages Week at Mazenod College was a celebration of culture, community and spirit. Known as ‘FERRAGOSTO’, this event is also celebrated in Italy on the same day every year. Students and staff came together to enjoy an afternoon filled with authentic Italian flavours and vibrant entertainment. The aim of the event being a meaningful, authentic learning experience to celebrate and recognise the role of language and culture in our lives.

The Fire Truck Pizzeria contributed to the event, serving up fresh woodfired pizzas, alongside a tempting selection of cannoli, arancini, gelato and chinotto that brought a real taste of Italy to the event. Music filled the air, with the sounds of a live accordion by Mr Accordion Man and the young accordion prodigy - Samuel, setting the perfect atmosphere, while the Fiat Lancia Club of WA delighted the crowd with their impressive car display.

Students joined in the fun of the gladiator games and lined up for a photo in “Venezia,”. Roaming staff and student photographers captured the enjoyment, appreciation and enthusiasm that were present throughout the afternoon.

The event showcased the wholehearted participation of staff and students, whose energy and involvement created an atmosphere of joy and celebration. It was a fitting finale to a successful Languages Week, and a wonderful reminder of how rich cultural traditions can bring communities together.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the entire Mazenod community for embracing the day with such enthusiasm and making the week’s celebrations truly unforgettable.

The Education Perfect (EP) Languages Challenge was an exciting opportunity for Mazenod College students from Years 7 to 9 to showcase their language skills and enthusiasm for learning. Throughout the challenge, students dedicated an impressive 553 hours to completing a wide range of language-based activities and quizzes, answering an incredible 101,541 questions and covering many different languages along the way. The Year 7 and 8 classes brought a competitive spirit to the event as they battled it out for top spot and the chance to win a pizza party for their class. Meanwhile, the Year 9 students took their challenge to the next level, competing against five other schools proudly finishing in first place. Their hard work, teamwork and determination made this year’s challenge a huge success for Mazenod College.

It was fantastic to have some of the Year 9 and Year 10 students of Italian helping in various roles on the day, as well as the Year 12 student leaders helping out at the stalls.

Grazie mille!
