Grade 3 & 4

Over the last semester, the 3/4 students have done a lot of excellent learning in the classroom and have really lifted to some challenging work and concepts! 

In writing this term, students have been developing their writing skills through a focus on FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but, or, yet and so) to help improve on their simple sentences. They have been learning how conjunctions can be used to connect ideas and create compound sentences, while considering which conjunction is most appropriate for the meaning they are trying to convey. Students have also been practising combining ideas, improving sentence structure and rereading their writing to ensure their sentences are clear and effective, and have shown great results in their Friday Free writes.

In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of grids and financial literacy throughout the term. They have been using grids to locate and describe positions, follow directions and communicate the location of objects using rows and columns and have even attempted at making their on classrooms using grids as a reference. Students have also been exploring Australian currency, including identifying and comparing coins and notes, calculating totals and change, converting money to decimal notation and applying their mathematical understanding to practical, everyday situations involving money. In Humanities, students have been learning about natural resources and their importance to people and communities, and they have explored a range of natural resources, including water, soil, plants, minerals and energy sources, and considered how these resources are used in everyday life. Students have also been developing their understanding of the importance of using natural resources responsibly and considering how human activities can impact the environment.
