Principal's Report

Dear Bundoora families, 

At Bundoora Primary School, every decision I make is guided by my legal and moral responsibility to our students.

As Principal, my responsibility is to ensure that every child is safe, supported and provided with the best possible opportunities to learn and thrive. This means making decisions that prioritise educational outcomes, student wellbeing, and the effective operation of our school.

At the heart of this responsibility is equity. Every child deserves access to a quality education that recognises their individual needs, celebrates their strengths, and supports them to reach their potential. Equity does not always mean that every student receives the same support; it means ensuring that each child has what they need to succeed.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Our responsibility to students also extends to establishing clear and consistent expectations for learning at home. Homework, when purposeful and appropriately designed, can help students consolidate classroom learning, practise essential skills, and develop positive habits such as organisation, responsibility, and perseverance.

At Bundoora Primary School, our homework expectations are intended to support learning, not create unnecessary stress for students or families. We want homework to be manageable, meaningful, and aligned with what students are learning in the classroom. Reading regularly, practising key skills, and engaging in activities that build knowledge and independence are important parts of supporting our children's education.

We also recognise that every family has different circumstances and that students have different learning needs. Our approach must therefore balance high expectations with understanding, flexibility, and equity.

Creating Opportunities for the Future

Our purpose extends beyond the years students spend at Bundoora Primary School. We want every child to leave us with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and resilience to make meaningful choices throughout their lives. Quality education opens doors, creates opportunities, and gives children choices for their future.

I recognise that decisions made in a school do not always meet everyone's individual expectations. However, I want our community to understand that decisions are carefully considered, with the needs of our students and the long-term interests of the school at the forefront.

Whether we are making decisions about teaching and learning, student wellbeing, behaviour, homework or school operations, our focus remains the same: doing what is right for our students and ensuring they receive the best possible educational opportunities.
