Athletics Day 2026

By: Katie Cook - Sports Coordinator

The 2026 Warrandyte High School House Athletics Carnival delivered an unforgettable day of competition, colour, and school spirit as students headed to Doncaster Athletics Track ready to represent their houses with pride.

With perfect weather conditions and an electric atmosphere from the opening event, students embraced every opportunity to compete, support one another, and get involved. From sprints and relays to jumps and throws, the level of participation and enthusiasm across all year levels was outstanding.

A highlight of the day came in the field events, where Skye Jones delivered a record-breaking performance in the 14 Year Old Girls Javelin. Skye launched the javelin an incredible 26.47 metres, setting a new school record and capping off a fantastic carnival performance.

More Than Just Sporting excellence

The carnival was not just about athletic excellence, but also a celebration of school spirit, connection, leadership, and fun. From colourful costumes and creative themes to energetic chants and cheering squads, the day was full of enthusiasm, pride, leadership and sportsmanship. Students across the school embraced the opportunity to support their house and create an atmosphere that made the event truly special.

The annual Best Dressed competition once again produced some incredible costumes and plenty of laughs throughout the day. Judging proved extremely difficult, with so many creative outfits and themes on display across all year levels.

Best Dressed Winners

  • Year 12 Shrek Cast – Teagan Potter, Jess Russell, Marlo Whelan, Isla Thomas, Lasenya Isaacs, Chloe Karafilis, Gabby Hodgson, Darcy Welsh, Sam Winchester and Zoe Whelan

  • The Grandpas – Ryan Cartwright and Mason Scott-Bommert

There were also several extremely highly commended costumes, making the competition one of the closest in recent years.

A special mention must go to the Year 12 students, who embraced their final House Athletics Carnival with incredible energy, humour, and leadership. Whether competing on the track, cheering from the sidelines, or entertaining the crowd with costumes and chants, they helped create a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish.

The success of the carnival would not have been possible without the efforts of staff, student leaders, and volunteers who assisted with timing, measuring, recording results, and supporting events throughout the day. Their hard work ensured the carnival ran smoothly and allowed students to enjoy such a positive experience.

The day concluded with the always anticipated Year 12 final run down the home straight, a highlight of the day and a memorable moment as the entire school community gathered to cheer on our senior students one final time and cheer on the graduating class.
